Cohiba PIRAMIDES Edicion Limitada 2006

Posted by: Lawrence Manuel   in Premium Cigar

cohiba-piramides-limited-edition-2006-thumb1

A beautifully constructed cigar, that is a departure from the traditional grass and herbal Cohiba flavours. Medium strength, with rich caramel and toffee overtones and a slowly developing complexity.  This habano gives a superb smoking experience with luxurious aromas, excellent for aging in your humidor.

I’ve had these torpedoes in my humidor a little over 9 months.  It was a bit moist this morning but was beautiful as it got towards the early afternoon.  I thought I’d open up my main humidor and enjoy one of them.  Amazing aroma that my wife surely appreciated next to some of the strong smelling Hondurans. :) Very tasty and relaxing. You’ll be able to find them on http://www.puroexpress.com.  Great cuban cigars and for a decent price as well.

Camacho Coyolar Puro Figurado

Posted by: Lawrence Manuel   in Premium Cigar

camacho_black2Camacho Coyolar Puro cigars set a whole new standard for bold, EXTRA-full-bodied tobacco flavor. These stunning cigars are handmade with a mucho potent blend of all-Honduran-grown long-filler tobaccos grown on the Coyolar farm (where this cigar gets it name). The smoke is well-balanced and aswarm with dark, earthy, spicy flavors. Best recommended for the cigar smoker with a hard-core palate – seriously!

This cigar has an easy draw allowing ample amounts of smoke to be taken in on each breath.  Consistent burn throughout the entire session with great solid ash that I broke after each inch of burn. Amazing cigar next to the Camacho Corojo.

La Perla Habana Cobre Black Pearl Toro Cigars

Posted by: Lawrence Manuel   in Premium Cigar

cobre1La Perla Habana Cobre Black Pearl Toro Cigars La Perla Habana’s justifiable claim to fame is the Black Pearl Rojo, chosen by Cigar Aficionado magazine as the number one rated Toro cigar in the world! Certainly, that’s quite a coup for the company, but when you stop to consider the dedication to excellence of this old-line Dominican company, it really comes as no great surprise. In this same great tradition, now comes La Perla’s Black Pearl Cobre. The Spanish cobre translates as copper, a testament to the cigar’s luscious wrapper, a Connecticut- Ecuador that smokes as delicious as it looks. Add to that a Habana Criollo binder and delightful Nicaraguan long fillers and you have a cigar that is destined for greatness in its own right. That’s why we’re linking them together with the Toro.

It was a nice and sunny day today.  I had these babies for over a year in my humidor and boy did they taste delicious.  Without that oily sheen, this dry copper colored wrapper has an excellent flavor.  You’ll achieve a great draw with ample smoke on each puff along with a solid ash that won’t break even after burning an inch in.   It starts off with a woodsy beginning but fades to a nutty flavor at the end .  Always a winner, this black pearl is a must buy for those who love their habanos.

Estilo Dominicano Robusto

Posted by: Lawrence Manuel   in El Cheapo

estilodom_reg1One of the most surprising finds is the Estilo Dominicano by Arganese Cigars International.

Construction is noteworthy because the filler is both long and short leaf (Cuban sandwich).  This style of cigar can be a bit messy to smoke with a loose ash accompanied by flaking.  Happily that is not the case with this one.  The art of the roller is evident as the ash is well-formed and the burn is even.  It’s a great daily smoke as it’s about $2.00 a cigar. Amazingly smooth flavor.

Rio from Marty’s Cigar and Divan can’t keep them in stock as it’s a hot seller at his store. They usually sell in bundles of 20 or in singles as well.

Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Robusto 1979

Posted by: Lawrence Manuel   in Premium Cigar

donpepinblack1 Made in the old Cuban fashion in Miami, Florida. Don Pepin was Cuba`s most respected rollers when he fled the country. Don Pepin has set up shop with some of the finest rollers around. Try some of these full bodied cigars and you will swear they are straight from the Island. The Cuban Classic is a spicy full bodied cigar made from very select tobaccos. This smoke is the latest stick produced from Pepin.

I was smoking cigars at my cousin’s home a few nights ago and one of his friends was smoking a Don Pepin cigar.  Since then, I’ve been craving to smoke one.  I bought 2 Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Robusto 1979 cigars from the Cohiba Cigar Boutique @ Victoria Gardens. I read a few good reviews and thought I’d have a smoke this evening.

It has a creamy caramel color wrapper with very little veins.  After lighting the cigar,  it starts off a bit spicy. It cleans up with no spice at all as I got towards the midway point of the cigar. I could taste some hints of chocolate. It’s a medium-full bodied flavored cigar with a Corojo wrapper and a heavy blend of ligero tabacco.  This puro is made in Don Pepin’s factory in Esteli, Nicaragua.

Overall I found it to be an excellent smoke. I’d definately buy this cigar again.

Here’s a video tour of Pepin Garcia’s Factory:

It was an idea that started between two cousins (Lawrence Manuel & Arnold Asuncion).  We thought it’d be fun to start doing cigar reviews.  We decided to create our own review site with friends and family members.
